Anyone can read this book. It’s a story of a journey, involving some unusual and poignant experiences. There is some science within it as well, but there is very little technical language.
The book has been written primarily for health care professionals, including doctors, nurses and therapists, and for those training in health care. Its contents include a mixture of personal experiences and research done by an experienced academic doctor. His message to his peers, and all health care workers, is that medicine needs to accept the existence of healing phenomena that are inexplicable by conventional science. Biomedicine, the author believes, needs more humility, and to be open to learning from other cultures and practices.
Members of the general public will also find much of interest in the book, as it provides rare insights into modern medicine, with its successes and failures, as well as exploring healing and the work of people who practice as energy healers and shamans.
The book also documents the healing value of art and nature, each of which helped the author on his own healing journey after trauma, and provides pointers as to how anyone can find a way to healing.
